Grouplady Life Skills Consulting, LLC is a vision that came to life in 1995. A college intern she was chosen to deliver breast cancer awareness to a group of women in an at-risk community in Jamaica Queens. Early on she developed the ability to make other women feel comfortable in their skin. Her energy and ability to connect with women of all ages motivated countless women her senior to do self breast exams and seek medical attention for the first time. This was her first empowerment experience. Shortly after, the vision was born to continue to motivate, empower and inspire.
Her purpose grew to encouraging others to take care of their physical and mental health, while loving themselves after surviving domestic violence and a tragic loss by gun violence she became a single parent, and later a divorce single parent. While going to college raising two children she worked in several New York City foster care organizations, as a Case Manager and transitioned to Therapeutic Supervisor and became a certified trainer of the Model Approach to Partnerships and Parenting (MAPP) providing training for adults to become foster and adoptive parents. Searching to provide her children with better educational opportunities her social work path extended beyond New York City to the District of Columbia and Maryland. Her practice in crisis intervention evolved beyond case management as she became a Mental Health Coordinator conducting home visits using the Wrap Around process an advocate for Domestic Violence education, and an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.
As a Listening Aide and Counselor for youth, a public speaker and facilitator for pregnant and parenting adolescents, she was able to reach a younger population of at-risk persons longing for love and acceptance. As Program Coordinator for a leading non-profit organization, her education initiatives broadened to include teaching life skills , financial budgeting, homelessness prevention, and healthy decision-making. As a Social Worker/Educator her professional development led to training in Trauma Informed Care, facilitating groups on mental health care.
As a volunteer for the Abused Persons Program, she co – facilitated domestic violence groups. Using the Wrap Around process she developed treatment plans for families with children coping with mental health diagnosis. In Washington DC’s residential recovery programs, she developed and facilitated substance abuse groups that helped people transition back into the community. Through a faith-based organization she received additional training and facilitated Single Parent classes and emotional health support groups.
